Website Redesign for Consumer Federation of America

Web Design

Overview

The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is a nonprofit organization that champions consumer rights through research, education, and advocacy. Their website serves as a key resource hub for journalists, policymakers, and everyday consumers.

The challenge was clear: the old site was overloaded, difficult to navigate, and visually outdated. My goal was to redesign the experience to make critical information more accessible, trustworthy, and engaging — all while preserving CFA’s authority and legacy.

Key Goals

  • Improve clarity and readability of complex content
  • Simplify navigation for multiple user groups (media, researchers, public)
  • Modernize visual design while keeping the institutional tone
  • Ensure accessibility and responsiveness across devices

Process

1. Content Audit & Strategy

I conducted a full audit of the existing site and identified opportunities to consolidate, reorganize, and clarify the content. We restructured the information architecture based on user needs and real-world search behavior.

2. UX & Navigation Design

I introduced a cleaner, more intuitive navigation system that reduced cognitive load and made high-priority resources easier to find.

3. Visual Design System

I created a new visual language — balancing credibility and clarity with modern UI patterns. The redesign introduced a neutral color palette, improved typography for long reads, and strong visual hierarchy.

Impact

In redesigning the CFA platform, I helped give a stronger digital voice to an organization that protects millions of consumers — proving that good design can serve the public good.
